David O’Meilia joined Richards & Connor as a partner in 2009 after serving as the Presidentially-appointed United States Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma since October, 2001. As the United States Attorney, Mr. O’Meilia served as the chief federal law enforcement officer and prosecutor throughout the Northern District of Oklahoma. During his tenure, in addition to prosecuting a number of high profile criminal cases, he established the United States Attorney’s Anti-Terrorism Task Force, the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, and advised the United States Attorney General on priority policy issues through service on committees focused on Native American issues and controlled substances, anti-terrorism and national security. He served as Chair of the Internet Pharmacy Working Group and the Indian Gaming Working Group, and served on the United States Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals Advisory Committee.
Mr. O’Meilia received his undergraduate degree in Pre-Law from Oklahoma State University in 1973. In 1976, he received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Tulsa College of Law. Mr. O’Meilia has been a trial lawyer for over 33 years, with extensive experience handling both civil and criminal cases in state and federal courts. Before his appointment as United States Attorney, his criminal practice included service as an Assistant Public Defender, an Assistant District Attorney and felony team captain under celebrated Tulsa County District Attorneys Buddy Fallis and David Moss, and as an Assistant United States Attorney, including service as Senior Litigation Counsel for the United States Attorney’s Office. He also obtained broad civil experience in private practice, handling employment, commercial business and complex civil litigation.
Mr. O’Meilia’s practice areas consist of civil and criminal litigation, with an emphasis on business and commercial issues, bad faith and tort liability, employment law representing management, and white collar criminal defense, as well as, corporate compliance and internal investigations, government investigations and related civil and regulatory proceedings, work-site immigration law compliance, and Indian law.
Mr. O’Meilia and his wife, Cheryl, raised three children. He is an avid tennis player and fisherman.
