Jessica N. Battson was born in Santa Barbara County, California. After graduating with Honors from California State University in 2007, she moved from Venice Beach, California, to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to attend the University of Tulsa College of Law, where she graduated in 2009, with Honors, and earned the CALI in Juvenile Law. She worked defending indigent clients as an Assistant Public Defender in both the Misdemeanor and Felony teams after working as a legal intern on felony dockets for two years. Ms. Battson was Secretary of the Tulsa Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. She won multiple hearings and chaired five jury trials before four different judges.
Ms. Battson grew up in a family of four children, all home-schooled by their mother through high school, and all of whom were encouraged to excel in education and in their professional lives. Prior to law school Ms. Battson volunteered through the Los Angeles County Bar Association teaching and supervising a peer mediation program for middle school students in Carson, California, while completing her B.A., working as a Teacher’s Assistant, managing a café, and working part-time for three music venues. She has also placed top three in several national dance competitions, including winning the Amateur Couples Division of the National Jitterbug Championships with her dance partner.
Ms. Battson enjoys life in Tulsa, spending her free time managing her household, building a garden, cooking, and dancing. She is also an animal lover who has fostered over thirty animals for Tulsa Animal Welfare.
